Alex Morton There are expressions that people in certain areas use so often that everyone gets tired of hearing them. Hence, the jar to put money every time you use one. Here, near Vancouver, where it rains constantly all winter, when the sun finally breaks through, everyone always says, "Don't stare at it, you'll scare it away." Same kind of thing as "Wouldn't be so bad without the wind."

E. Writer Yeah I get it now, people saying in the midwest, "It wouldn't be so cold if not for the wind." The jar would be full. But initially I did not get it at all.
