I dug this 2020 film by the great Julie Taymor. An important tale, well told.

Keep your finger on the pause button. From 2 sec. thru almost 5 sec. there I am, bottom center, hands on the edge of the stage and all in. 1981, Chicagofest. When we spent no little time bellowing MUUUUDDDYYY! @ the top of our lungs:
Andrew Morgan I saw him with friends in Phoenix (Tempe actually) mid-70s.
Frank Hutton We 1st saw Muddy no later than ’78, then through the rest of his life & @ my wife’s behest we went to his wake. He’d a great band especially early on and the shows were often incendiary.
But my personal favorite wasn’t that, as I & a 75 yr. old coworker named Homer Savage whose apartment walls @ the infamous Cabrini Green complex were said to be covered in red velour ditched work for a sparsely attended free lunchtime gig where we got to stand about six feet away throughout.
Maggie Gyllenhaal's 2nd feature is a beast to behold. Brilliant, scathing, brave, outrageous and positively furious, start to finish. Oscar caliber performances throughout. Also full of genre references. When hallway through they do a full scale 1930's style production number of Puttin' on the Ritz (including dance steps cribbed from Young Frankenstein) and ending with Bale bellowing "Puttin' on the Ritz', my jaw dropped. My goodness, what moxy this film has. Ignore the reviews. If you're @ all into this sort of thing, you simply must see it to judge for yourself

E. Writer I've been eyeing this for a while. Might check it out.
Frank Hutton Fiercely subversive content draped with horror convention, the thing really worked for me. And you can't ask for better acting or set design, etc. It's quite the thing.
E. Writer I will definitely check it out. I know it's streaming on hbo. Any gore? I didn't initially watch as I was wondering if it was going to be gore. I can deal with violent content but I don't like when there's gore involved.
Frank Hutton We'll... The two main characters are reanimate dead so not in the best shape and as it's also a 1930's gangster/noir, with a bit of Bonnie & Clyde there's stylized/realistic violence pretty much throughout. If outright gore, I don't recall. @ the very least, that suggests if there is any, it's fleeting.
A blast from my past, didn’t wanna miss the parade. Wordy, just coming down from 13 month’s arduous fieldwork. But on-point, well-illustrated and more apropos our times even than then, yea team.

Frank Hutton Well, the trick’s in your mind, as it’s just me looking down on a cool stump and capturing it. To me, that independence of visual interpretation is the coolest thing about making abstract imagery. Every viewer must bring to it their own vision.
It’s okay that my single finest image capture of last year didn’t make the final cut @ Smithsonian’s ’25 photo contest, that wasn’t expected. Good news is, now I get to use that and accompanying work as best I choose, which I have.
