I love movies that have that gritty 1970s aesthetic like Serpico, Mahogany, or this gem with James Earl Jones and Dianne Carroll, called Claudine. Mean Streets, Saturday Night Fever, Dog Day Afternoon, are others. Otherwise, I am a huge fan of the early classics and musicals. That said, here's Claudine:

Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison is one of the most important reads of my early youth. The prologue is probably one of the most important reads of my youth and help shaped my desire to become a writer. While this course on the Prologue of Invisible Man is almost an oversimplification, it is accurate in some areas. If you ever have an opportunity to read Invisible Man, or even its Prologue, please do.
I loved this scene from Dumbo when I was a kid. It was so bittersweet and sad.
Vanessa Marie I vaguely remember dumbo, which tells me that I must’ve viewed it as sad. I remember looney toons, Tom & Jerry, etc.

In the End
In the end was my beginning.
I existed for a frame of time.
Existed in matter and spirit.
I existed in conscious mind.
I leave you only memories of me...
That will fade from light to dark
As I leave this place, for open space
with the vibrations of your heart.
Echoes of me will remain here
in the spaces where we once stood
places filled with love and cheer,
carved in stone and wood.
In the end was my beginning
I return from whence I came
I existed only in conscious mind
to become a forgotten name.
