On July 9, 1982 “Tron” was released in theaters! Written and directed by Steven Lisberger (Slipstream) from a story by Lisberger and Bonnie MacBird. The film stars Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn, a computer programmer and video game developer who is transported inside the software world of a mainframe computer where he interacts with programs in his attempt to escape; it also stars Bruce Boxleitner, David Warner, Cindy Morgan, Dan Shor, Peter Jurasik, and Barnard Hughes. The score was composed by Wendy Carlos (A Clockwork Orange, The Shining). Tron, along with The Last Starfighter, has the distinction of being one of cinema's earliest films to use extensive computer-generated imagery (CGI). The inspiration for Tron dates back to 1976, when Lisberger became intrigued with video games after seeing Pong. He and producer Donald Kushner set up an animation studio to develop Tron with the intention of originally making it an animated film.

Alex Morton Never saw it. The only horror film I've ever seen was in 3D, when I was a child. It was The House of Wax and it scared the hell out of me. I've never, since, wanted to watch a film designed for fright.

Alex Morton The novel was certainly prophetic, just 42 years off. Orwell was amazing, though I really prefer his Down and Out in Paris and London to his prophecy of the dystopia that the US has become.
