Something that I'm realizing is that writing an actual novel is more satisfying than writing fanfiction. I get to shape and mold my world without the confinement of keeping to someone else's canon. While I adore writing fanfiction (and will probably continue once my novel is complete), I just like this more.
The single problem, as someone who has worked on fanfiction for so long, is that I basically live for the applause of the people reading. I love seeing people interact with my story, gasp at the decisions I make, and actively have emotions from my writing. If I could find a place where I could post a chapter of my novel to see live reactions to it (sort of like how a movie will do a screening before the official release to gauge reactions), that would be really nice

Alex Morton I went straight from short stories to novels. I like the freedom of creating characters and letting them develop. All of my characters have backstories that may or my not become part of the novel. Some are based on people I've known or known of, but only loosely. About half of my work is humor, and it's incredibly rewarding to watch someone read something of mine and laugh out loud. The other form of applause comes from book sales and reviews.
