I was listening to a video about the Christian movie series "God Is Not Dead" (I like deep dives into things I've never watched, so this was on the list), and it got me thinking. I know this may be a hot take, but while I don't mind Christian novels and movies, I hate when they get too preachy and heavy-handed. I love when Christianity is entered into these things naturally. For example, A Walk to Remember with Mandy Moore. A Christian movie that barely feels like one.
I also dislike when you can hear the writer's voice when they try to condone something. Stephen King has this similar problem, especially in THE STAND, where a character would be talking, or something is being described, and then a tangent happens and it's like "Oh, goodbye Larry 'Baby, Can you Dig your Man' Underwood and hello Stephen King."
I notice in a few Christian books where you can practically hear the author disliking something. It can take readers out of the book and leave a negative experience. Like, Ender's Game is one of my favorite books, but the author is a raging homophobe, and you can't tell in his novels because he can separate himself from his writing, which, ironically, is the opposite of his actual views. Same with Brandon Sanderson's books. He's a Mormon, but in any of his fantasy books, you can't tell this at all, unlike Stephanie Meyer, whose religion you can tell is ALL OVER Twilight, of all things.
I firmly believe that a Religious fiction book can be created without the author being preachy and heavy-handed about it.
E. Writer The whole point of Christian media is to reach and to preach. So I sort of expect it. But it is nice when the message isn't too heavy-handed as you mentioned. I dislike messages in movies either. Like Scorsese is a good director but every single movie, there's a wild racial jab in it that comes out of left field. No reason for it. Not related to the plot or the characters. it feels like an intrusion from the director--the medium is a tool to slip some of his views in. So I typically don't care for Scorsese or his movies.
E. Writer I have to watch this. Carrie was so cool in the early 2000s but now that audiences have matured, they can see her for who she was. Would I hang with Carrie? Heck yeah. She was fun. But she was not a great friend sometimes, she was a terrible girlfriend, just awful to Aiden every time they dated. She was awful to Big after she finally married him. He was a dirtbag, but most of it was Carrie's fault. He told Carrie exactly who he was, what his limitations were, what he was looking for, and she wasn't listening or accepting that. I agree with the video, I felt that Carrie had a better stronger, relationship with Aiden. Big was a fantasy. A bad boy. The women were supposed to be independent, smart, self-sufficient, they spent most of their time chasing men and sleeping around. There was nothing liberating about what they were doing. I'd have to take the Down with Love -- Renee Zellwegger approach. When you have truly evolved, and you are truly liberated, you don't need to sleep with anyone at all.

Amber Diva I still remember having measles in elementary school. I was happy because I got to stay home and watch cartoons.
Alex Morton There used to be something pretty common, known as German Measles. It was like a minor bout of measles and no big deal until they discovered that it was one of the leading causes of congenital rubella syndrome which causes a number of birth defects. It was virtually eliminated with the MMR vaccine, just as they had wiped out measles until ignorance reared its ugly head. If they are against the measles vaccine, they are talking about the MMR vaccine, so they're in effect on the side of birth defects and the very serious consequences that can come with measles.
So, I typically recommend documentaries to my mom to watch together. I watched a documentary so shocking about EDP445, that I outright refuse to have my mom watch it. It was crazy.

Alex Morton I had no idea what you were talking about so I looked it up. Why would anyone want to watch a documentary about such an aberrant person? Better he be ignored and sunk into obscurity.
