Unexpected system outage today on the backend, with the entire network. A bit similar to how Cloudfare was down a few weeks ago, the networks that powers us was down for a few hours today. Afterwards, I restored the site to an earlier time than the outage to get everything connected and working again. This means anything you posted this afternoon may have disappeared.
Tip for the day: Posting from your profile page automatically sets your post to friends only unless you change it to public.

Roy Scarbrough I like the night-sky too when I wake up in the middle of the night. Jupiter appears outside my window at 3 a.m., to the left of Orion. There's something reassuring to see that planet reliably in roughly the same place.
Roy Scarbrough I do use the Podcast ap to tune into my favorite podcasts. The local NPR station has one so that I toggle back and forth between their jazz and classical streams in the night.
E. Writer I'm using the Duolingo app to brush up on my Chinese. I was surprised by how much I still remember. I could speak Chinese but couldn't write or read Hanzi. I am learning Hanzi through the app. There are over 4,000 characters in Hanzi and only scholars know all of them. The average non-native person knows about a thousand, which is where I hope to land.

E. Writer Its so hard to remember. I. Hopelessly illiterate in Chinese. I associate the hanzi with shapes they remind me of.

Alex Morton I think we'd miss out on a lot if we restricted the public feed to friends only. Groups offer the opportunity for friends-only posts. We may not all have the same interests, but a truly public feed opens the world of neighbahood for all of us.
E. Writer The site also gives the option of a person choosing to set their post to friends only as well.
Server update today so we had slower loading. Everything should be back to normal now.
